Mr. Karl Kaufmann

Mr. Kaufmann graduated Cum laude in biology from St. Cloud State University. He holds a Master of Educational Leadership degree from Southwest State University. In addition, Karl has completed MN DNR Woodland Stewardship training and is a U of M Extension Master Gardener. Mr. Kaufmann is a member of the community and has taught at Pillager High School for the last 23 years. A former Pillager Teacher of the Year, his accomplishments include the start-up and development of our forestry & greenhouse programs for which he was awarded MN Forest Educator of the Year 2000 and the development of our biotechnology coursework for which he was honored by the University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences: Outstanding Science Teacher Award 2003. Mr. Kaufmann was also honored as the  MN MAEE Formal Environmental Educator of the Year 2013 and was a 2013 MN Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist. In addition, he has also served on the MN Legislative Task Force for Outdoor Education and the State Advisory Committee for Outdoor Education.

Mr. Ryan Saulsbury

While attending Vermilion Community College, located in Ely Minnesota, Mr. Saulsbury earned his Associates in Arts degree. From there he transferred to Bemidji State University and earned his Bachelors degree in Science Education.   Mr. Saulsbury holds a teaching licensure for Life Science grades 7-12, and Science grades 5-9.  Currently, Mr. Saulsbury is a graduate student at the University of Nebraska  at  Kearney (on-line program) and is working on his masters degree in Biology.   Grade levels taught include sixth through college. Courses taught at the Middle Level include: Study Skills, Physical Science, and Life Science.  At the high school courses taught include: Physical Science 9th grade, Forensics Science, Aquatic Biology, and Environmental Science (HS and College level), Ecology of Minnesota (CIS)
