Credit Options Meeting for Upcoming Juniors and Seniors (2017-2018)
As an upcoming junior or senior, your student may be eligible to participate in college credit opportunities.  There will be a PSEO and CIS meeting on Monday, February 13th from 5:30-6:30PM in the Media Center.  I would encourage students and parents to attend who are interested in earning college credit while in high school.  If your student is a senior for the 2017-2018 school year and are already enrolled in PSEO or CIS courses for their junior year you will not need to attend this informational session.  If you are unable to attend the meeting I will be posting the presentation on my web page within the next couple of weeks. CLC Speed Networking Event
CLC and the College of St. Scholastica are teaming up to offer a career exploration event for students interested in a healthcare related career.  The objective of this event is to connect high school students from our region with a wide range of healthcare career professionals who can answer questions about required education, rewards and pitfalls of the field, and encourage them to explore the career futher.

The event will be set up in a speed networking format where small groups of students will be given approximately five minutes with the professional before moving on to the next professional.  The even will ned with a large group luncheon where a keynote speaker will describe his/her edcuational and professional journey that began at Central Lakes College and the College of St. Scholastica.

The event will be held on Friday, December 16 from 9-1PM at CLC-Brainerd campus. Interested students can sign up with Mrs. Turner.  The deadline to sign up is Friday, December 9th.

On Wed., Oct. 19th the PSAT will be given at the high school.  The PSAT measures a student's skills in two core areas:  Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math and is composed of three sections, Reading, Writing, and Math.  This test is a preview of the type of questions students may find on the SAT (a college entrance exam), giving students a sense of the format, question types, content, and time limits they will encounter on the SAT.  The PSAT lets students compare their ability to do college work with the ability of the other college-bound students.

The PSAT is the only test that may qualify your junior student for the National Merit Scholarship program.  The NMSC uses the PSAT to decide which high school students will be distinguished as National Merit Commendations (approximately 34,000 students out of the nation), semifinalist (approximately 16,000 students), finalists (approximately 15,000), and scholars (approximately 8,200).  The PSAT is not a test students are required to take.

A formal letter will be going out to parents regarding the testing fees, sign-up process, and time of the exam.

Changes to the FAFSA Process for 2017-2018

Submit a FAFSA Earlier:
Students will be able to submit a 2017-2018 FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016, rather than beginning on January 1, 2017.  The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit their FAFSAs as early as October 1 every year. (There is NO CHANGE to the 2016-2017 schedule.  The 2016-2017 FAFSA became available January 1, 2016.)

Use Earlier Income and Tax Information:
Beginning with the 2017-2018 FAFSA, students will be required to report income and tax information from an earlier tax year.  For example, on the 2017-2018 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income tax information, rather than their 2016 income and tax information.

Below is a summary of key dates for submitting the FAFSSA depending on when you plan to go to school:
