Superintendent Michael Malmberg
Michael Malmberg, Minnesota Association of School Administrators’ 2021 Region 5 Superintendent of the Year, has served as Superintendent of ISD 116 since December 1, 2014. Previously, he served as an Elementary Principal and an Assistant Principal in the Elk River School District starting in 2004. Prior to that time, he served as Activities Director in Willmar Public Schools for four years, and taught elementary school and coached several sports at various schools across the state. Throughout his career, he has earned awards such as 1997 Minnesota Football Class C Coach of the Year, Region 2 Activities Director of the Year, and 2021 Region 5 MASA Superintendent of the Year.
He earned his B.A. Degree from Concordia College in Elementary Education and Coaching in 1988; his M. Ed in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, and Administrative Licensure from North Dakota State University.
He has served as MASA President for Region 5 and is also the current Chair of the Cass County Children’s Initiative. He is also a board member for the Pillager Family Center.
He is in charge of the leadership and administration of the district, reports to the Board of Education and provides leadership to a growing district of over 1,300 students and 200 employees. His responsibilities include overseeing, planning and implementing the strategic plan, driving a comprehensive curriculum, and building and strengthening relationships within the community.

High School Principal Jason Savage
Jason Savage is the leader of Pillager High School. He provides leadership to a vibrant and innovative high school of approximately 400 students.
His responsibilities include overseeing. planning and implementing the district strategic plan, driving a comprehensive curriculum, and building and strengthening relationships with parents and the community.

Middle School Principal Wade Mortenson
Wade Mortenson is the leader of Pillager Middle School. He provides leadership to a school where students, staff, visitors, parents, and community members feel welcome each time they enter the school of approximately 400 students.
His responsibilities include overseeing. planning and implementing the district strategic plan, driving a comprehensive curriculum, and building and strengthening relationships with parents and the community.

Elementary and Early Childhood Principal Josh Smith
Josh Smith is the leader of both Pillager Elementary and Early Childhood Schools. He provides leadership to a caring and dedicated staff that serves the needs of our youngest students.
His responsibilities include overseeing. planning and implementing the district strategic plan, driving a comprehensive curriculum, and building and strengthening relationships with parents and the community.
